Aliwal North : Lying on a splendid agricultural plateau on the southern bank of the Orange river, is one of the country's most popular inland resorts.

The town developed simultaneously as a health resort and transport centre with the railway from East London reaching the town in 1885.

Aliwal North is famous for its hot springs and also boasts a large reserve offering breathtaking scenery and different species of antelope. The town is well known for its well-preserved old buildings and historical places.
